New Provincetown Bicycle Map and Safety Guide

The new Provincetown Bicycle Map and Safety Guide, which is a component of our "Share the Road" campaign, will hit the press soon. In the meantime, please have a look at the electronic copy.

The map and guide were created by the Provincetown Bicycle Committee and sponsored in part by the Provincetown Tourism Fund. 

The brochure includes maps of the bike trails, Massachusetts bicycle laws and bike rentals.

Provincetown's Single Women's Weekend, May 18-20

Single Women's Weekend
May 18-20, 2012

Provincetown's 2012 season of annual women's events kicks off next weekend with Single Women's Weekend, May 18 -20.  Single Women's Weekend, the only event of its kind in the world, brings gay women from around the country for a unique opportunity to meet.

 

The Single Women’s Weekend schedule of events is packed full of easy ways for registrants to get to know each other that includes everything from speed meeting to dine-arounds.  Registration for the event is available at SingleWomensWeekend.com.

 

Lynette Molnar, the event organizer, says that Single Women's Weekend has also morphed into a time when couples who are looking for a quieter getaway in Provincetown, but with lots of things to do, can come ahead of the raucous Memorial Day Weekend that follows.

 

Six events on next weeks lineup are open to the general public and everyone - single or coupled - are invited to attend:

GLBT Expo in New York City

Provincetown attended the 19th Original GLBT Expo at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City this past weekend. Ptown had, as usual, one of the most visited booths and we were, again, lucky to have wonderful volunteers helping out throughout the show.

The Provincetown Tourism Office and the Provincetown Business Guild co-ordinated efforts prior and during the show to represent and promote Ptown during the two-day show.

Since Provincetown is a well-known wedding destination, the PBG also had volunteers staff the Wedding booth, where same-sex couples could get information on getting married and planning their ceremony.

The purple tote bags were a smashing success among attendees as we managed to give away all 3,000 in stock. Also, boat and plane tickets from Boston to Provincetown were raffled off and the lucky winners will be announced soon.

AAA Marketplace Trade Show at Gillette Stadium

Provincetown participated in the annual AAA Marketplace Trade Show this weekend. The show took place in the Putnam Club area at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough between March 2-4.  

This was a good opportunity to advertise Provincetown to the New England market and also network with other companies and DMOs (Destination Marketing Organizations) in the region.  

The royal blue Provincetown beach bags with a zipper were the most popular items.

2012 Predictions

2012. Here it is: The year that Mayans, Seekers, Spiritualists, Naysayers and Nostradamus groupies all say is the end of the world.


What-ev-er. Negative thinking is, just, so last year.


Here are my positively divine predictions for Provincetown in 2012:


1. Record numbers will attend Jay Critchley’s eclectically cleansing 29th Re-rooters Day Ceremony on Saturday, January 7th, at 4pm across from the Harbor Hotel along the beach on Route 6A. If you’ve never attended, this remarkable ritual allows attendees to throw something onto a raft with a burning Christmas tree, as a symbol of letting go, and watch it go out to sea. Free and freeing! Also, the creator of the Swim for Life, this diverse conceptual artist is an icon.

2. Winter locals will actually leave their houses after dark and go to a free (or very inexpensive) movie. There are wonderful film series at the PAAM, Provincetown Library, Harbor Hotel’s Whalers Loungeand vintage black and white film collector Brad Moore’s Benefit at WOMR. The Provincetown Film Society has a robust schedule of year-round cinema at Whalers Wharf as it fundraises to renovate the space and prepare for PIFF 2012. 


3. A huge growth in last-minute bookings in travel and hospitality. This Tourism Industry Blog prediction bodes well for Provincetown. With its accommodating nature and accessibility by plane, ferry and car, day trippers and urban dwellers seeking the beach can wake up in the morning, decide to visit and be having lunch along Commercial Street by Noon. Expect a marked increase in walk-in guests with spontaneity being a vacation trend for 2012.
