Last fall, eleven Friends of the Cape School, all of them Provincetown artists, donated works to the Cape School's annual fundraising auction. The proceeds from the sale of those artworks are currently making possible two exciting initiatives.
Henry's Painting Yard:
In our
winter issue, we told you about Ghee and Pat Patrick's generous donation of a
space near the sudio to re-create Henry Hensche's painting yard. Work on
the yard is now underway thanks to pro bono consulting assistance from
Jennifer Crooks, owner of Garden Renovations, and labor donated by Arthur Reis
Landscaping, both of Provincetown.
During
Phase I, the area was cleaned up and leveled off.

The path
from the school doorway to the garden, and an oval shaped area for the students
and teacher, has been graded.

The next
step is to prune and mulch the area to make it presentable for the new
school season, and then to add sand to make the oval shape firmer and
fresher. J.L. Noons of North Truro has generously offered to donate the
mulch and sand.
The garden
can be used during Phase I, so all this summer's students will have a chance to
enjoy it, beginning with the first classes!

Phase II
will include top soiling and planting colorful plants and foliage around
the circle. This is where the money raised by the Friends will be used.
Phase III
will include moving the boulders and flat rocks to form benches in and
around the circle and the shaded pathway. Jennifer Crooks also has some
great ideas for Phase III using some of the discarded items in the lot!
Scholarships At The Cape School of Art
We
are pleased to announce that we will be offering several full
scholarships this year. With the intention of serving Lower Cape Cod
artists who may have an interest in studying at the school, we will be looking
for folks of diverse experience, age, and background.
The primary
purpose of offering scholarship is to encourage those who have begun study here
at the school and wish to continue, as well as to invite those who have an
interest in the experience to further their artistic inquiry.
We harbor
the hope that this offering will encourage and invite those who would not
otherwise be able to afford studying at the school. The CSA is seriously
invested in nurturing both current and future practitioners who will continue,
and perhaps one day teach, in this unique and beautiful painting tradition.
The
funding of the scholarships come from various sources. This years funding is
provided by the Artist Friends of The Cape school, who generously donated their
art to the school's annual silent auction fundraiser. It is important to note
that we can offer the large number of scholarships because our master teachers
are readily donating teaching and class space, so that the money raised can
supply the student with paints, boards, and any other needed supplies for their
course.
